Cruise 118 Case Study
Posted on 12th August 2022
Shopping for your dream holiday from the comfort of your own home has never been more popular. Travel agents often use teleshopping to sell holidays as it provides a more interactive sale service. This being said telemarketing has indeed become under-appreciated because of the reputation it has gained. In 2021 the nation's largest cruise agency World Travel Holdings (UK) approached the team at Prism Studios with an urge to evolve their live TV shows and output stylish and modern social media videos for their brand Cruise118. Cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean have continued to add amenities to their new ships in their fleet to appeal to the family and young adult demographic.

The brief was to output a 30-minute show for both TV and social media once per week. As well as creating optimised social media content to promote the TV show and highlight the best deals. We had to make a process that was seamless between recording the TV shows and uploading the video for TV output. This means most of the hard work was done in the preparation for the shows. We work closely with the amazing marketing team at Cruise118 to get all the relevant information for the upcoming show sent and the graphics approved. We firstly designed plenty of bespoke brand graphics such as animated logo stings for the intro and outro of the show as well as other graphics that would be shown during every show.
Every show is different, some shows are destination specials and others are centred around deals so once the brand identity had been approved we then had to create templates for graphics that would be changed every week. Prices and details for cruise holidays change every day, so it was important we created graphics that we could edit quickly. For each show there are a variety of graphics that need creating to show every detail of a cruise deal. These included sidebars with an abbreviated overview of the deal and a full slate.

Videos also had to be created for each show and each deal. It was important to highlight the port of calls the ship will be stopping at with a video of each port. We also edited ship tour videos from the cruise lines, these could be shown behind the presenter on a screen or appear full screen. The biggest challenge was creating the set. We sourced various props for the set and set up a large backdrop to cover the wall. We had to consider everything a videographer would normally consider such as sound, light and quality however in this case it was important to also consider the comfort of the presenters and the streaming quality. It was also important that each show flows well without outtakes, so the final version can be sent to TV within the week of filming. We needed to be able to control everything from the mixing desk so the equipment we used was important to consider. In this case we decided to use the Blackmagic ATEM Mini to get a feed from the Sony FX6 into our computers running Open Broadcaster Software. We also used multiple Elgato Streamdecks to control the brand visuals.
The project continues to be a huge success as we see the engagement of videos posted on the Cruise 118 social media pages go up and a noticeable improvement in the quality of the TV shows. We have now also started creating video content for other franchises of World Travel Holdings (UK) such as Six Star Cruises. It has been a privilege for the team at Prism Studios to be a part of this project and we are continually improving the shows every week.
